London Fashion Week (Dishing the dirt)

London Fashion Week was amazing. Not only were all the designs unique, but every one of them deserves to be listed for awesomeness. However, the big designers were the best and I only give you the best, so take a look at the gallery below, including the designs of Christopher Kane, Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch and Versace(okay, maybe not, but Versace deserves a mention on a blog including them in the name.) The first dress is from a collection which I could not pinpoint, but certainly struck me as the perfect dress for a semi-formal event. If you look at the previous pictures on NYFW you will notice quite a lot of red. It seems as if red is the colour of the season.

I adore the play with patterns that these designers used, along with the bold, daring combinations they dared to choose. This season shows promise of being filled with gentle yet statement colours, a variety of colours, and offers every fashionista the chance to experiment with different textures and mismatched outfits. This catwalk season offered everything, from casual to sleek, from urban to rural, from street to office and most of all, from last seasons gloom to spring and summer bloom. And, with those concluding words, aaannnddd that's a wrap to FWs
Also, exciting news, I've found myself a photographer. In the next post, prepare to welcome Fatimah , a newbie photographer to help me as a newbie blogger.
Also, your support and love has been a blessing and I love you all so much...

Spring in Action (Dishing the Dirt)

Spring had arrived in full flair, and designers have taken this opportunity to host the biggest annual fashion events. London Fashion Week 2015 was brimming with colour, light and extraordinary courage. Nothing was the usual, everything had a unique, bright fashionable perspective. When I looked at the outfits laid out in front of me, I saw that while all were more than just beautiful, very few had the aspect of Spring screaming me in the face. So with that in mind, I picked out 2 collections which I loved and am sure you will too. The Top Shop Collection was my absolute favourite. A basic style rule is that underdone is well done, and TS played by it perfectly, with the subtle amount of make up, which was bold and daring, and the equally amazing wardrobe. Although it portrays classic style, the black and white doing just that, it also conveys a young, chic view with the reds and maroons in the mix. The red stood out as the main element to me, and took on a very constrasting and bold turn jn comparison to the rest if the look. The designer of this collection has made it runway perfect but also had that street style element, making it suitable for both casual and formal events. All I can say is, I want, I want, I want!!!

My other go-to collection this spring would be the Burberry Prorsum. The name matches perfectly with the outfit designs, which dive straight into each and every shade if purple and pink. Whether it be the startling grape, the soft lilacs or seductive pinks, this collection brings new birth in every way, adding a playful, youthful touch to the runway. The dresses, while not completely street style made, can certainly be adapted from straight-formal to flaired skater girl, with the designs all kept perfect. All we have to do now is wait to grab hold of these necessary beauties (All photos from Harper's Bazaar)

My Style Inspirations

Everyone can credit something or someone for their style, and I, in particular, must thank the many people that changed my style forever. Sure, I did have to develop my own, unique style, but ultimately, every outfit I invent is solely based on the influence and inspiration of these guys - my cousins (and I'll credit my Mom too.)

To be totally honest, I was never much of a fashionista. I had a non-adorable love for ruffles, tutus, beads and anything with an overdose of glitter, when I was young. My cousins would constantly tease me about this, and I never really care, because I seldom chose my outfits, and when I did, my mother always managed to make me look presentable. Only recently did I get over my love for too much, so to say. I still like to add a little sparkle to my wardrobe, now and then, but whenever I go overboard, they're there. My mom also played a huge role in my taste. I never was and never will be (from the looks of it!) much of a shopper, so shopping trips were a tiresome, moody experience for me. My mother endured this great calamity (of her only daughter hating shopping) with much skill and tact. My mother would buy a few items she liked, make me try them on and critique them, and then she would return those which I did not like. Thank you for your tolerance. Even though I still hate shopping with all my heart, I would never have started this blog (or my style , for that matter) if it weren't for these people. Thank you!!!

This post is dedicated to Haseenah, Sabeeha and Asma. You know who you are :) ;)

If the shoe fits, Wear It

Today I attended a wedding, in the freezing cold weather, wearing a short-sleeved dress and open toe heels.

Big mistake with the heels. I simply couldn't work and walk in them, so to avoid the drama for yourself, here are a few tips...

If the shoe fits, wear it
If it fits. If it is a tad too big, leave it. I made the mistake of wearing my heels with heel grips due to them being a little bit big, and did I regret it. The grips constantly peeled off and it was a slippery story inside.

The height:
If you can't manage 6 inch heels, stick to the simple one inch. No one will judge you.

Make sure it's comfortable:
If you can run, walk and work in them, buy them sister. Make sure the padding is suitable and you don't be suffering from blisters and sore pinkies later.

The colour:
When buying a heel, remember that they are pricy and you won't be using them daily, so buy a colour that will go with future outfits or outfits which you own already, and look fab with heels.

Durability:
Because of the strain you will be putting on the shoe, wear something that won't fray and be of no use after a few working events.

The Winter Chills

It hasn't really been cold in KZN so far, but on the weekend of a huge family wedding, temperatures just have to drop to below freezing. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but when you've planned your fabulous, short-sleeved dress way in advance, and can do nothing to change it now, it is beyond frustrating.

Cold, winter days gives you the great opportunity to dress fabulous because you can collab summer outfits and throw in winter garments too. For me, though, a person who rarely feels cold and has the least winter outfits in the history of wardrobes, this sudden change of weather caught me totally off guard. So I did what any normal person would, I stayed at home in my jammies.

Here are some tips for cold days:

Wake up earlier:
However hard it may sound, cold days mean less outdoor things to worry about. No meetings and sports, hopefully. So knuckle down and write than book you intended to, read that blog you always wanted to do, and Skype some long lost relatives, just to surprise them.

Exercise:
Believe it or not, cold days use your fat to insulate you, and that means lots of fat is being used. This is the time to take your Lady, freezing butt off the couch and do indoor fitness, multiplying your weight loss and getting your dream summer bod in winter.

Have hot chocolate and popcorn:
This I don't even have to elaborate on. It's a well known fact that hot choc and pop are thee best way to get into the winter groove. Pop that Sterkinekor into the micro, melt some Dairy Milk, and sit in the bed with your laptop and get to work.

Movies:
Do yourself a favour and forget about horror movies. Winter is a time for cuddles and comfort, so hire a few romantic comedies and snuggle up with boo or your besties, for a warmth like no other.

Unplug:
Do something you generally neglect. Visit parents and have a throwback day. Or spend some quality time with people you care about, be it your friends, cousins, boo or just your kitten whom you haven't petted since he was 3 months old. If you haven't connected to Allah (God,) then plug in your earphones and listen to Qur'an.

Keep warm:
Wear your jammies, tuck into bed with a warm blanket and enjoy the freezing temperatures. Invest in a cosy onesie, something I haven't done yet. I've always wondered though, how does one use the loo with a onesie on?

Keep warm and have a lovely cold day, South Africans.

Flashback Friday - The Eid Edition

Sorry! (Throws hands up into the air)

My apologies extend to you. The Eid Edition is way over due... As you can see. Yet I feel it absolutely essential to do it anyways.

How the day went
Boring with a capital B. We had a really small event, family only, unlike the usual. For a person like me, who enjoys large social get-togethers with loads of people, talking, laughing and a huge buzz of activity, it was a real disappointment. However, my mom always tries her utmost best to make Eid the best day and no one can help split family Eids. Still, it annoyed me beyond explanation.

The chow
The most well-known part of Eid is the food, and I cab gladly say that every single year, without fail, my mom's organised a top-class menu. The usual Indian delight, Biryani was served for lunch, and boy was it tasty! My second favourite thing about Eid is the amount of sweet treats there are to gouge yourself on, Burfee being my absolute favourite. If you don't know what burfee is, it takes like nothing else you might know, but the texture is a little like raw dough. And it takes like it too! Jokes, no way, it is a piece of heaven.

What I wore
My favourite part, and probably yours too. For me, playing dress up at home doesn't usually result in compliments and rarely has reason behind it, but with everyone attempting to dress their best on Eid, it provides me with the perfect occasion to show off my inner Beyonce. This year though, my outfit was casual yet classy. With a plain off-white RT dress from Mr Price (favourite store EVER,) a lumo pink jacket sewn by my local dressmaker after listening to my idea if a 'flashy, lumo jacket that makes the outfit stand out' and a pair of off-white, normal shoes from a really priced down shop (can't remember the name.) My tights were also from Mr Price, an RT once again, brown with specks of colour and lumo pink! Mr Price has some great pattern pants for you to invest in. They're affordable, comfortable and trendy to the tee. Thank you, MRP! You can check out my outfit in my Instagram page, @unfathomable_oeuvres.

The great thing about this outfit is that it is casual and can be used in a hundred different ways. Generally people buy fancy dresses and flowy skirts which they never end up using again, but a reusable outfit pays off in the long run. Be sure to check out MRP's print collection, which you might have to dig around for, but will be worth your time. It definitely was worth mine!
